1997 Eagle Talon TSi Maintenance and Mods Pages

I bought my 1997 Eagle Talon TSi FWD in October of 2005 with the intention of continuing where I left off with my 1992 Eagle Talon. I had completed a few mods on the '92 non-turbo, but while they helped make a relatively quick car a little quicker, it was nowhere near as fast as a turbo...and I really wanted a turbo. So when I found this car for sale, I came home, did the dishes, made breakfast in bed for my wife, and invited her for a little drive (no, really -- I'm perfectly serious!) The rest is history.

The '97 TSi is a lot of fun -- almost everything about the 2G's is better -- they've got a better suspension, the 2G body style is a little slicker, and of course, this car is a turbo :D

But as fun as the car is, it does have a few drawbacks. I've started playing guitar in a band, and my amp is too big to fit in the back of a Talon. I can't carry my whitewater kayak on the roof of this car either (well, technically, I can -- I did with the '92 Talon, but doing so scuffed the paint on the roof of the car, so I didn't want to do it with the new one). Finally, my daughter is getting bigger -- while a three year old fit okay in the back of my '92 Talon, she is six now, and getting taller all the time. She still fits, but it's getting tight. And finally, while one of the things I like about the Talons is the almost endless supply of mods, I found myself getting a little tired of constantly tinkering on the car. It was fun when I was adding aftermarket fun parts to the car, but when I dropped $4000 all at once for a new turbo, a new clutch, a new power steering pump, braided clutch lines, a new clutch master cylinder, and a new O2 sensor, things started getting a lot less enjoyable. Additionally, my music is starting to take more of my time and money, and I have found myself spending less and less time and money on go-fast parts for the Talon. So, I sold it in July of 2007, and bought a brand new Nissan Frontier, instead. Maybe in a few years when I'm rich and famous, I can buy another 2G TSi (AWD? I can hope!), deliver it to Road Race Engineering, have them completely rebuild the thing with all the goodies I've always wanted.

Until then, so long, T38 -- it's been a fun ride!
